Whether we’re preparing your meal, styling your table, or hosting your evening, you’ll meet one of these lovely people or someone from our talented team of casuals.

Karina Shepherd

Karina is a mum of three. Inspired by her love for creating in the kitchen and a desire for an organic, natural and wholefood lifestyle, Karina’s previous corporate career took somewhat of a detour. Time spent volunteering in a local food co-operative piqued her interest in understanding more about the provenance of food and Karina found herself cooking and eating with the seasons. She began working part-time at nearby Buena Vista Farm and for a local wedding catering business. As well as attending wholefood cooking classes and using this knowledge to experiment in her home kitchen, Karina’s knowledge began to flourish. It was at this time that Dandelion & Mallow was born out of a love of simple, delicious food made from scratch. Using locally grown, seasonal produce, Karina has established a reputation for her delicious and nourishing food. Each business decision is meticulously considered, ensuring direct alignment with nature and the principles of sustainability. When she does step out of the kitchen, Karina enjoys spending time with her family, reading books about wellness and permaculture, pottering in the kitchen garden, swims and stand-up paddle boarding in the nearby ocean and walks in the bush, or with the family dog.

Heidi Presland

Heidi is a self-taught cook with a passion for natural-sustainable living and healing, and a mum of three boys. Having worked in several local cafés and fine dining restaurants, Heidi has a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry. She was also heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of the community food co-operative and has spent many hours supporting teachers and students at the local public school.

This varied experience, along with Heidi’s calm and gentle nature, provides Dandelion & Mallow with great organisation in the kitchen and a warm, inviting presence for our customers. Heidi relishes time with her family and in her thriving garden of herbs, fruit, vegetables and natives. She also enjoys walking and surfing at our local, Seven-Mile Beach, birdwatching and camping around Australia. Heidi continues to practice her healing energy work – Reiki – at her beautiful, one-acre property in Toolijooa.

Sarah Worboys

Sarah is a fully qualified naturopath; wholefood cook and mum, who has a passion for making good health and well-being achievable for everyone. Sarah’s love of wholefoods and cooking brings her to the Dandelion & Mallow kitchen each week. She prepares food with love and has taught us the art of fermenting and baking 100% spelt sourdough. Sarah enjoys swimming at her local ocean pool, camping with friends, reading novels and drawing. She also loves to spend time with her family and walking their dog.

Matt Presland

Matt grew up in a home filled with wholefoods and surrounded by nature. Beginning his foodie career at a local fine-dining restaurant, he learned valuable skills in the art of preparing and plating up entrées and desserts. A lover of good coffee, Matt now works for a popular local coffee company and enjoys using his skills and experience to prepare food in the Dandelion & Mallow kitchen on busy weekends. Matt enjoys travel and spending time with friends.

Vanessa Moran

Vanessa is a mother of four and lives on a gorgeous acre in Gerringong. A passionate veggie gardener, Vanessa grows much of the family’s own food, including herbs, fruit and veg, eggs, chicken and lamb. She works behind the scenes in their family-owned Gerringong Surf School and with us, preparing food in the Dandelion & Mallow kitchen and providing on-site service to our customers. When she finds a spare minute, Vanessa delights in eating yummy food with her family, swimming at the beach and doing Pilates.

Penny Rushby-Smith

Penny is mum of two and a contemporary artist who loves to explore sustainability and ecology through personal and community engagement. Along with her traditional fine art skills, Penny enjoys landscape and garden design, plan drawing and horticulture. She also facilitates educational workshops within the local public school and Bundanon Trust in the Shoalhaven. Penny provides on-site service at Dandelion & Mallow events and is busy most weeks in our kitchen garden. She’s installed our drip irrigation and she plans, prepares and maintains our flourishing vegetable beds. Penny facilitates our beautiful connection with the soil and nature with her amazing wealth of gardening experience and knowledge.

Amy Bowe

Amy has a young family and a wealth of experience in events, styling and interiors. Initially working in visual merchandising, she established a successful career which took her across the globe. Amy now calls the South Coast home, providing local event, interior and product styling and is responsible for Dandelion & Mallow’s beautiful table styling. Since relocating to the area, Amy relishes her ongoing connection to Sydney while reaping the delights of South Coast living, with morning dog walks on her property and swimming in the ocean.
